Located in a Hepworth (a small village just outside of Holmfirth) is the impressive Spiced Pear restaurant.
Originally an old Country Inn, the restaurant includes a dining room and Fourteas vintage tearoom, along with a cocktail lounge piano bar and a terrace area which offers stunning views of the neighbouring countryside.
Previously known as The Hepworth (and prior to that Cragrats), the restaurant was taken over by local chef Timothy Bilton who having built an excellent reputation for great food at The Butchers Arms (also in Hepworth), remodelled and re-branded the restaurant as The Spiced Pear.
Restaurant
The restaurant area features an open-plan layout, where diners can watch on as the chefs prepare their food in the kitchen. In keeping with the “all the frills, none of the fuss” ethos, The Spiced Pear’s elegant dining room is a relaxed space where diners can mull over the a la carte menu from a comfy armchair.
Award winning local chef and owner Timothy Bilton offers diners “fantastic food – all the frills but none of the fuss”.
The Spiced Pear were recently awarded the Readers restaurant of the year for the North East by Waitrose Good Food Guide 2015.
Fourteas Tearoom
The 1940s inspired tearoom “Fourteas”, transports you back to a time where you could get a ‘proper afternoon tea’. The Spiced Pear’s special Afternoon Teas include delicious home-made scones, sandwiches, cakes and more alongside a selection of warming teas and coffees.
Tearoom guests also have the option of enjoying their Yorkshire clotted cream and sweet strawberry jam scones (amongst other things), either beside the tearooms vintage open fire, or taking in the local scenery from the balcony terrace.
Bar
The smart and stylish bar area, is an inviting space for all, whether you’re popping in for an after work pint or a glass of champagne with the girls. The Spiced Pear’s bar boasts a great choice of local real ales, extensive wine list and exciting signature cocktails. All in the presence of live piano music.

Arrived there today (19th March 2016) 3.45pm, what I call tea time for afternoon tea, was recommended by a friend of a friend so we drove the 26 miles to sample the experience, what experience you say, yes that’s right , we were turned away as we had not made a reservation and they had a largish group in (although not that large ) as half the car park was empty, I counted about 30 people on the premises ..
Anyway after spending a couple of minutes parking then going down the steps (no sign on road saying no teas available !! So you pull off the road to get into the car park and walk to the entrance and wait where it’s states wait here to be seated.
Then a plainly dressed (suppose waitress or table clearer ) comes and says can I help you … Er yes table for two please I replied ,
No sorry you need to book for Friday’s Saturday’s and Sunday’s ….!
Doesn’t say anything like that in the website..
And for two persons , afternoon tea, oh come on… Be real.
So we drove away back on our 26 mile drive
And stopped at Black hall farm at 4.15 pm where we were warmly greeted and had a wonderful eat.
Would I recommend spiced pear ?
Can’t say about the food ….
But the friendly welcome (what friendly welcome)
Wouldn’t drive another 2 miles to dine at the spiced pear, let alone 26 miles
A very disappointed potential customer who has a great deal of clients in his own right that will be advised of this rejection
